Well, I went to the Kentucky State Fair today on my lunch hour and to my surprise there were no ribbons on my rugs... :( I was really bummed. I felt sure that I had a winner of one ribbon or another this year. Whoever was in charge at the Fair this year in displaying the rugs did a pitiful job. My table runner was rolled up (along with some of the other table runners) and you could only see about 1/5th of the rug. The pumpkin rug was thrown over a rod in a glass case and you couldn't really see the whole rug. The only rug you could see entirely was the pomegranate rug which displayed well. I've decided not to enter any more rugs in the Fair. Apparently the judges don't like my work or the way I hook. Either way, I was very disappointed and so I went shopping after work and bought myself some new pumpkins to go with the 16 tubs of pumpkins I already own... probably didn't really need any more, but I'm in love with pumpkins so I can always use a few more!!
I appreciate the positive comments I received about my rugs. At least someone liked them!!

Hi Sharon! I personally LOVE your rugs! Especially the white pumpkin! Rug hooking is a craft on my list of "things to learn to do" soon as I can! If you have any advice on a book or kit or something for the beginner, I would greatly appreciate it. You obviously know what you are doing, even if the judges disagreed. Apparently their taste is all in their mouth! LOL

Whaaaaat! Those judges must be blind! Your rugs are gorgeous and should have been displayed properly! I can't blame you for not wanting to enter in that Fair again. Look for other places and possibly art shows that would appreciate your work. I love your style of hooking! You won in my opinion!

Thanks girls for the nice comments. If you're a rug hooker, you know how many hours go into the rugs. I was so sure I had a winner this year... Everyone who has seen these rugs has commented how great they are. I guess they just didn't suit the people who were placed in the position of judging this year. At least I have 3 really great rugs to put in my home - especially the white pumpkin!! It will go up soon with the other lovely pumpkin decorations I have. I think I might have been a pumpkin in a previous life!! I really love pumpkins - not Halloween stuff - but fall stuff - pumpkins, bittersweet and things like that. My favorite pumpkin is the Cinderella pumpkin. Well here, I am rambling on about pumpkins... :)

Tara, if you're interested in rug hooking, there are many books out there for beginners. I took a class at a local rug hooking shop to get started, but if you don't have that option, several good books to use as instructional tools would be Rug Hooking for the First Time by Donna Lovelady, Purely Primitive by Pat Cross and Wool Rug Hooking by Tara Darr. All of these books have instructions on how to get started, how to choose your wool, etc. Hope you find one of them to your liking!

What?!?! That is insane!! Your rugs are gorgeous and I've only seen pictures of them. I can't believe you didn't bring home a ribbon. I'm so sorry about that girl, but there is something wrong with that! How sad that so much time was put into hand mades and they can't even display them nicely. I would have done the exact same thing you did... I would have went shopping. I would love to see some pictures of all your pumpkins.
